Inmate pleads guilty in 1980 Terre Haute slayings

wlfi.com

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – A California prison inmate has pleaded guilty as charged to two 1980 murders of Indiana State University students.

Police believe Harry Rowley was involved in the 1980 murders of Lucinda Farmer and Mary Quillen. This was a cold case that was reopened in 2010.

The two were found in an alley on N. 14th Street with gunshot wounds to the head.

Detectives went to interview Rowley in California earlier this year where he was serving a life sentence for a separate murder. Throughout the interview, detectives discovered enough information to issue an arrest warrant.

Court documents said Rowley told investigators he shot the women after he saw them leaning on his parked car.

Terre Haute Police brought Rowley back from California late last week.

Name: Joseph Weldon Brown

Known Aliases: (none)

Date of Birth: November 24, 1954

Claim to Infamy: Brown murdered Evansville resident Ginger Gasaway when she broke up with him and demanded the return of her car. After killing her, he dismembered her body with a reciprocating saw and discarded it in pieces around Posey, Gibson, and Warrick counties. While serving his life sentence for Gasaway’s murder, Brown confessed to killing thirteen others. Current Status: Serving life without the possibility of parole at the Westville Control Unit

Random Disturbing Fact: When the saw blade he was using to dismember Gasaway’s body broke, Brown walked into Home Depot splattered with blood and gore and calmly demanded an exchange. It was given to him, no questions asked.
